Design to the Wild

I'm Abhisek Bagaria, a wildlife photographer who approaches the craft like a designer solves problems: with research, systems thinking, and relentless curiosity.

My photography journey started with a point-and-shoot in school, but it took shape during my Master's in Design, where I learned to see storytelling as a structured discipline. For over a decade, I served as Vice President of UI/UX Design at Naukri.com and 99acres.com, leading teams that built digital experiences for millions. I loved the work. Solving problems at scale, mentoring designers, simplifying complexity. But my weekends and leave days always belonged to the wild.

The turning point came when I realized the same principles that made me effective as a design leader made me better in the field. Before photographing Golden Langurs in Assam, I spent weeks studying research, talking to local guides, and mapping their feeding patterns. Before tracking Pallas's cats in Ladakh's high-altitude silence, I analyzed behavior videos and learned to read terrain like I'd read user journey maps. By the time I'm positioned in a muddy marsh at dawn or lying flat in grassland at dusk, I'm not hoping for a moment. I've done my homework. I know where to be and why.

I believe in sensitization, not sensationalization. Wildlife photography isn't about luck or drama. It's about respect, preparation, and understanding ecosystems well enough to predict behavior. Read the animal, keep your distance, leave no trace. Make images that honor the moment rather than exploit it.

Today, I split my time between India's forests and East Africa's savannas. Kaziranga, Bharatpur, the Western Ghats, the Masai Mara. Each landscape is different and I get to learn something new about light, composition, and patience. And I bring those lessons back to the people I coach.

Teaching has always been at the core of who I am. Whether I was mentoring design teams or now coaching photographers in the field, I break down complex concepts into first principles. I ask relentless questions. I share what works and what doesn't. If you're someone who values both craft and ethics, who wants to learn systematically rather than chase viral moments, I'd be glad to share what I've learned.

Now, as a full-time wildlife photographer and coach, I help others discover the art of storytelling through photography. Whether it’s through workshops, mentorship, or my own images, my goal is simple—to bring people closer to nature, one frame at a time.
